The Greenlight Situation | Forum

For those of you not in the know: "Steam Greenlight is a system that enlists the community's help in picking some of the new games to be released on Steam. Developers post information, screenshots, and video for their game and seek a critical mass of community support in order to get selected for distribution. "

Problem is tho, Digital Homicide happened.

In the last few months they have spammed the site with ~55 "Games", of which are only various reskins and clones of their own asset flips. They have uploaded 10 in the last 24 hours alone. (A Steam forum thread devoted to keeping track of all of their games: http://steamcommunity.com/.../496879865891577164/)

There are also other developers that are filling the service to the brim with memes, jokes, and terrible product.(Threads for: http://steamcommunity.com/.../371919771752310499/

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/digitalhomicides/discussions/2/496879865891578353/

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/digitalhomicides/discussions/1/496879865891573913/)

So, if you need a non-paying second job, help us try to self-moderate Steam Greenlight, because Valve sure doesn't care. The group intended to burn these devs to the ground: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/digitalhomicides

This Nightmare Needs to End.

Edit: Are you kidding me!?! Sorry about the links guys, at least the one to the main group still works.

Isn't that the team that released "Killing Grounds" or whatever it was, then sued the YouTubers who criticized it?

Yup, they released Slaughtering Grounds, then sued Jim Sterling for $10 Million(recently raising it to $15 Million) in damages. If you wish to follow developments regarding the lawsuit, there is a thread about it:

Also: The name of the group Digital Homicides is in direct mockery of the developer's name, if you didn't already get that.

Protip: Don't Tweet out #PurgeGreenlight: https://twitter.com/...183624589312?lang=en

They locked your account for that? What does Twitter care about Steam?

I literally started the account that day, and my very first tweet was "#PurgeGreenlight", within a few minuets, I was told my account was locked. Apparently I had violated their rules in some fashion. I didn't go through with trying to verify a phone number to unlock it, so I am unsure what the exact infraction/is was.

Steam probably complained to Twitter about the hashtag, and attempted to get anyone who tweeted it in trouble with Twitter, by making a slander complaint, or something of that nature.

Perhaps that's too elaborate, but just a hunch

The only time I had ever heard the hashtag was in a Greenlight Warnings thread this morning. Valve also mass-labeled about 10-15 of Digihom's games with "This item is incompatible with Greenlight.", so they know there is a problem. Could still be tired of the ordeal, and told Twitter to enact a filter that flagged tweets with violent verbs and "Greenlight" in them.

Example "game" with said label. Sound warning.

I honestly think it was a misinterpretation of my statement as dangerous speech. With no context, it could easily sound like it.

Since when has a hashtag been dangerous speech?

#KillAllJews would be an example of dangerous speech. Without context, what I tweeted could be misinterpreted as encouragement of violence, therefore dangerous speech, unprotected by the First Amendment. LEOs never showed up, so I might be wrong.

Well, yes, that would be considered violent hate speech in any place, but I can't figure out what the "trigger" word would be. Purge maybe? Interesting...

Stranger and stranger. I wonder if there's a different/better hashtag to get the job done? I am glad to hear that Valve has taken some limited interest in getting this issue sorted out.

Y'know, this kinda just donned on me, but would not validating your E-mail cause your account to lock up?

Not sure about that. Might want to contact their support people.

To be perfectly honest, I don't really care enough to get it unlocked.

Also: All but 3 of Digihom's games had the "Incompatible with Steam" label removed.

I noticed that a good number of "shovelware" titles have vanished of late. It seems the hate DigitalHomicie has accrued means that their titles are drowned in poor reviews and ratings as soon as they hit the marketplace, so even if they are producing a glut of titles, it's unlikely they are selling the things. What they stand to gain is a total mystery at this point though- if nobody likes you, and your games only serve to clog up the works for others, what exactly are you doing with your life?

Hopefully Valve steps in some more, though I am glad to see that they're working on this one- even if it is in more limited chunks and steps. Fingers crossed we can get some resolution before the Steam holiday rush.

The greenlight giveth, and the greenlight taketh away.

Either way, if Digital Homicide loses to Jim Sterling, he's probably going to file countersuit and then they'll be gone.

Edit: Here's a court record https://www.pacermonitor.com/...330/Romine_v_Stanton
